Road map
INSPIRE is the result of a long process that saw the light of day when the Directive was approved, although it began long before and it has still not been completed. These are the main milestones along this path:
- December 2001: Creation of the INSPIRE Group of Experts.
- July 2004: Approval of the Directive draft by the European Commission.
- 2004-2007: Preparatory phase and conciliation process in the Parliament.
- May 2007: Directive is approved and came into force.
- 2007-2009: Transposition phase and adoption by national legislations.
- 2009-2013: Implementation Phase.
