The situation of spatial information still shows enormous fragmentation and disparity among the existing sets of data and sources, major gaps in availability, lack of harmonisation for data using different geographic scales, overlapping information, etc.
These problems make it difficult to identify, access and use the data available at all levels.
Examples of problems:
Fortunately, society is increasingly aware of the need to have more and better geo-referenced information for all types of activities. Information that helps to make decisions, to undertake better policies for citizens to understand, for example, the complexity of interactions between human activities and environmental pressure and impact.
The INSPIRE initiative is both opportune and relevant. However, given the general situation described above, it also represents an enormous challenge for everyone involved, including SITNA.
